Beauty and the Beast has officially reached over one billion dollars in worldwide ticket sales.
Disney announced the achievement on Thursday as the film became only the 29th in history to reach this mark, 14 of the 29 being the studio’s very own productions.
It was also revealed that Beauty and the Beast is now the top-grossing live-action musical feature ever released. This is Disney’s second non-animated movie to cross this milestone following 2010’s Alice in Wonderland.
Directed by Bill Condon, the film hit theaters on March 17 and has been dominating box offices across the world since its arrival. During opening weekend, the adaption earned a record high of $174.8 million in North America.
Beauty and the Beast’s stellar cast includes Emma Watson (Belle), Dan Stevens (The Beast), Luke Evans (Gastons), Josh Gad (Le Fou), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Potts) and more. The musical is also up for four nominations at MTV’s Movie & TV Awards next month.
